BEMIDJI, M.N.-- The Huskies took an early lead Saturday night in Bemidji, but costly penalties would allow the Bemidji State Beavers to rally to victory. Alex MacLeod would put the Huskies on the board 7:56 into the first period on a play that was initially indicated as a no goal by the goal judge. After review the officials ruled in favor of Michigan Tech on the goal assisted by David Johnstone and Brad Stebner.
After the first period Michigan Tech led the Beavers in shots 12 to 5, a trend that would continue for the rest of the game.
An interference call on Ryan Furne at 9:08 of the second period would allow Bemidji to score on the ensuing power play to even up the game. The goal was scored at 9:41 by Shea Walters and assisted by Ben Kinne.
Late in the second period an interference call on Nick Cecere set up the game winning goal by Bemidji's Ben Kinne at 18:54 on a breakaway.
In the third the Beavers would get an insurance goal by Drew Fisher at 12:26 past goaltender Kevin Genoe .
The Huskies would go on the penalty again late in the third period. However, it was Michigan Tech who put continued pressure on goaltender Andy Walsh with 3 shots on the penalty kill.
Michigan Tech finished the game with a 32-16 shot advantage.
