Michigan Tech (9–8–1, 6–7–1 WCHA) were unable to get the series sweep on Saturday, losing 6–2 to Minnesota. The Gophers had a 4-goal third period to end any hope of a series sweep. The loss in the Twin Cities was the Huskies’ first loss to a Big Ten team this season.

“They are a very good hockey team, there is a reason they are one of the tops in the league,” said Head Coach Mel Pearson. “We struggled in the defensive zone a little tonight, but there were some positives to take away.”

Michigan Tech scored in the first period when Daniel Sova’s shot from the point redirected off Milos Gordic’s foot to an uncovered Jordan Baker for a power play goal, and then again in the third when Sova beat goalie Kent Patterson on a one-timer. Both goals were scored on the power play. After the second goal, the Gophers took over the game and got the crowd into it, scoring 4 straight goals in the third. The Huskies could not stop them and could not get any pucks past the Minnesota netminder.

The two teams combined for 82 penalty minutes; 63 of those came in the last 2 minutes of the game.

Josh Robinson started in net again and made 34 saves on 40 shots.

Michigan Tech will play Northern Michigan on Friday night, then not play again until the Great Lakes Invitational in Detroit over the holidays.
