Linkorama: Week 18

Before Michigan Tech hits the road for their first trip to Amsoil Arena to face the #1-ranked Minnesota–Duluth Bulldogs, here's another edition of Linkorama. This week, we have updates on seven recruits and six alumni.

Recruits

Jujhar Khaira was featured in this week's edition of Future Huskies.

Walker Hyland scored the game-winning goal and added an assist to help Alberni Valley (BCHL) defeat the Merritt Centennials 3–2. Hyland was snubbed in the three star department as two of the three stars were awarded to Merritt.

Tyler Heinonen scored a goal to bring the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) within one goal of Team USA late in the third period but the Lumberjacks couldn't tie things up before Team USA extended their lead and eventually defeated Muskegon 5–4.

After a couple rough outings to start his career with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens (OJHL), Jamie Phillips allowed just three goals in two starts but managed only one victory. He allowed one goal on 29 shots to help Toronto defeat North York 4–1 and kept the Jr. Canadiens in the game allowing two goals on 49 shots in a 2–1 overtime loss to Kingston. His 47 saves against Kingston was good enough for recognition as the second star of the game.

Kent McPherson had a great week for the Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL), scoring two goals, an assist and a shootout goal. On Thursday, McPherson had a goal and an assist to help Trenton defeat Kingston 7–2. Then, McPherson followed that up with a power play goal in regulation and the only goal in the four-person shootout to give the Golden Hawks a 5–4 win.

Reid Sturos was the third star of the game putting up four points including two goals to help the Alexandria Blizzard (NAHL) defeat the Bismarck Bobcats 6–4.  The day before, on Monday, the Blizzard knocked out the Minot Minotauros 6–2. Sturos had a goal in that victory, also.

Last week, THG mentioned that Joe Schuldt and the Minnetonka Skippers (MSHSL) had a tough week ahead with a game against Edina (#5) and rematch with Duluth East (#1). Well, the Skippers split their games, but not the way most had guessed. Minnetonka fell to Edina 3–2 but, after being mentioned as a player to watch by Hockey Wilderness, Joe Schuldt and Minnetonka took Duluth East to the woodshed on Hockey Day Minnesota, out scoring the Greyhounds 9–3.

Alumni

Andy Sutton scored a goal but it didn't even help as the Edmonton Oilers (NHL) fell to the Calgary Flames, 6–2.

Clay Wilson is getting ready to represent the Abbotsford Heat (AHL) on the Western Conference squad for the AHL All-Star game in Atlantic City next week.

Chris Conner had two assists as the Grand Rapids Griffins defeated the Rochester Americans 4–1.

Rob Nolan did enough to get a win for the Toledo Walleye (ECHL) in a 5–4 win over the Reading Royals.

Riley Nelson scored two goals in his last three games for the Colorado Eagles (ECHL), which included a 6–4 win over the Ontario Reign.

Malcolm Gwilliam helped the Evansville IceMen (CHL) defeat the Tulsa Oilers 3–2 by scoring the first goal of the game. Interestingly enough, the game-winning goal was scored by another former Husky, Jake Obermeyer.
