Twice this summer, Michigan Tech received a commitment for the future from a player who’s spent time with the Victory Honda AAA team in Plymouth, Michigan. First, a blueliner from Canton, Michigan, committed back in June. He’s currently playing in his first full year for the Indiana Ice in the USHL after spending last season as the captain of Victory Honda’s U18 team. During that year he put up a little less than a point a game with 12 goals and 21 assists in 41 games. After the AAA season ended, Roy headed to Indiana where he played 10 games and scored 3 points.

Roy will be leaned on pretty heavily in playing regular minutes for the Ice this year. At 6′ 1″, he’s a good-sized defenseman for an 18-year-old and will likely play this year with the Ice before heading to Michigan Tech for the start of the 2014–15 season if he develops as far as everyone expects him to this season.

Michigan Tech returned to Victory Honda this summer during tryout camps where the staff spotted Jake Gingell. The 16-year-old defenseman turned some heads after a good year with Compuware U16 and committed in September. Gingell has been drafted in both the USHL Futures Draft (Omaha, fifth round) and OHL Priority Draft (Sault Ste. Marie, thirteenth round). Gingell is currently listed as 5′ 11″ and calls Gregory, Michigan, home. He’s expected to spend time with both Victory Honda and Omaha before joining Michigan Tech for the start of the 2016–17 season if all goes well.

Gingell and Roy show the Huskies continue to focus on players developing in Michigan, and join Reid Sturos, Chris Leibinger, Joel L’Esperance, Mark Auk and Trevor Cope on the list of Michigan-born players to commit to Michigan Tech. Expect Michigan Tech to continue plucking stars and filling depth with in-state talent. Players like Cooper Marody and Dakota Joshua seem like possibilities if they show interest in the Huskies.
