Week 8 WCHA Web Media Poll Analysis

While it comes as no grand surprise that Bemidji State should go again as the undisputed first-place, carrying all 100 possible points in the poll, it is worth noting Ferris State's meteoric rise from their position last week. FSU jumped from 8th place on 34 points up to 5th place with 59 on the heels of a weekend sweep as they hosted Lake Superior State University. While LSSU didn't crack the top 20, they did receive votes in last week's USCHO.com poll and, until the beginning of last weekend, were 6-2-0, including a split with Minnesota State.

FSU's sweep certainly did a lot to elevate the stock value of the Broadmoor Trophy defenders, and naturally the intervening teams all lost a place as a result of that jump. Looking into next week, Northern Michigan will host 17th-ranked Omaha, and (however unlikely) a win or two there could possibly lift NMU out of the basement in a similar manner.
