Michigan Tech (7–4–1 overall, 5–4–1 WCHA) rebounded on Saturday in game two and played a much better game, coming away with a 5–0 win to split their road series with the Alaska–Anchorage Seawolves. The Huskies got goals from five players and Josh Robinson stopped everything that came his way for the shutout, his second of the year.
“I am really happy and it is good to get a road win. We need to know how to compete on the road and win on the road,” said head coach Mel Pearson.
Blake Pietila started the scoring in the first period; Jordan Baker, Milos Gordic and Ryan Furne added goals in the second. Jacob Johnstone scored the Huskies’ fifth in the third period to close out the scoring.
Pearson said of Furne and his line, “The first line can be one of the best in the league, they are a good line and played excellent tonight. It was Ryan Furne’s best game of the year.” Furne, who also notched two assists, was the only player to register a multi point night. His performance was worthy of a second star – only Robinson’s shutout performance topped it.
Robinson stopped all 23 Seawolves shots in another instance of the dominant play he’s shown this season.
Michigan Tech will lay over in Chicago before heading to Canton, New York, for a series against St. Lawrence next weekend.
