Let’s continue the Linkorama in Week 2. Huskies started their WCHA play and all recruits are now in week two of their seasons. Many different links to look at this week, so let’s jump right in starting with Recruits.
Recruits
Chris Leibinger posted a +5 rating and Tyler Heinonen had a goal and two assist on the weekend helping the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) win both games.
Joel L’Esperance had an assist for Tri-City (USHL) as they split on the weekend with Omaha.
Joe Schuldt had a +2 rating Saturday night victory for Sioux Falls (USHL).
Dylan Steman and some Cedar Rapids (USHL) teammates were disciplined by the league for an incident on October 13th. Each have been issued fines for leaving the bench in a altercation from the USHL.
Marcus Ericsson was named Defensive player of the week for playing a pivotal role in the Buccaneers’ rout of Team USA on Friday night, scoring two goals in the decision.
Alumni
Chris Conner scored his first points of the season, with 2 goals and 2 assists for the Portland Pirates (AHL).
Jordan Baker also had a four point game over the weekend, helping the Rapid City Rush to a one goal victory Friday night.
Josh Robinson was named the ECHL Goalie of the week for back stopping the Steelheads to victory, stopping 20 shots in route to his first professional win. He followed that up with a second win on Saturday (making 35 saves), helping the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL) get the sweep on the weekend.
Other Items
Alex Petan scored a highlight goal against the #1 ranked Gophers, that earned him a spot in the Top 10 on Sportscenter and Petan sat in on Huskies Drive Time for a segment on October 23:
Pheonix Copley was named the WCHA Rookie of the week for his strong play this past weekend for the Huskies. He had a split against the top rated Minnesota Gophers.

Stephen Anderson (@steander), Michigan Tech hockey beat writer for The Daily Mining Gazette, previewed last weekend’s series letting the Keweenaw know that the Huskies are set for No.1 Gophers. Anderson’s weekly column covers the positive press following the split with the Gophers. Also, he has coverage for the Friday and Saturday games.
