Midway through the first period on Friday, hockey fans at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena were teased with a preview of the upcoming branding changes for Michigan Tech athletics. Revered by some and despised by others, the logo introduced in the early 1990’s and known affectionately as the Piano Dog will be retired after this season.
The stills captured below feature a new word mark for Michigan Tech athletics and some teaser graphics. Michigan Tech president Glenn Mroz announced on February 26th a top-to-bottom overhaul of the University’s branding. The new Husky logo and other branding aspects will be revealed on Tuesday, March 15th.
At this time it is unknown where the traditional Huskies script fits into the new branding strategy. We will update this article as more details become available.
