This week saw a bit of reshuffling—expected in the early parts of the season—as Michigan Tech’s pair of losses to Bowling Green dropped the Huskies from second to fifth in the polls. The other big movement came from a series split between Minnesota State and Northern Michigan; MSU stayed in first with 11 first-place votes (and the dissenting vote was not second, but third place), while the Wildcats pounced up to third.
The Huskies could win back some favor if they can sweep the team down the road in their home-and-home series this weekend. A sweep would likely elevate Tech and pull Northern back down enough that the Huskies end up above them. As usual, Nathaniel Brose will have a preview of that series on Thursday.
The poll-leading Mavericks travel to take on the Bemidji State Beavers in a north/south battle of the Minnesota contingent of the WCHA. If Bemidji can pull off even one win, expect their poll stock to go up. Even if they don’t manage a win, voters may be hard-pressed to hold a pair of losses to MSU (especially if they’re close) against the Beavers.
