On the back of two stellar performances on the weekend, Blake Pietila has been named WCHA Goaltender of the Week. The sophomore from Howell, MI. recorded a weekend save percentage of .963. Pietila stopped 48 shots on Friday and 35 on Saturday, for a combined 78 saves on the weekend. The 43 shots Pietila faced on Friday are the most any goaltender in the WCHA has faced up to this point in the season. He seemed absolutely unbeatable at times.
As the battle for the Huskies #1 goaltending position heats up, Pietila made very firm case for himself over the weekend. His desperation toe save on Friday night will likely live on Michigan Tech highlight reels and hype videos for years to come.
This weekend the Huskies (1-2-1) will travel to Bemidji State to take on the Beavers (0-1-0). The Beavers have played just 1 game against the Minnesota State Mavericks prior to having to postpone both the second game of that series and their following 2 weeks of games due to a coronavirus outbreak on the Mavericks.
Stay tuned later this week for the Chasing MacNaughton Podcast, Mike Anleitner’s Old Dog in Texas article, and the Bemidji State series preview from Jonathan Zamaites.
