We will be recording an episode on Monday, April 4, 2022 with head coach Joe Shawhan as our guest. If you’ve got any questions about the Frozen Four, MTU’s season or specifically for Joe Shawhan, let us know here, on twitter or via facebook!
Tim is a 2004 graduate of Michigan Tech. He is a co-founder of both Mitch’s Misfits and Tech Hockey Guide. With recent additions to the staff, Tim is again able to focus on his passion, recruiting. He currently works as an environmental engineer and resides in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Area.
Where does coach rank offensive ability when looking at a forward? Is he more focused on a balance between offense and defense/system or defense first type players? Would he recruit a player like an Alex Petan?
First, many thanks for your work this year and for another VERY solid season. Some questions:
1) At this point in their career, is their anything you can do to help players develop more straightline speed?
2) Y’all enjoyed an incredible special teams season (#4 PP, #3Pk in the NATION). What were some keys to this success? Obviously good player personnel, but did you emphasize anything differently this year?
3) Can players work on skill training to become face-off men? If so, what does that look like? Simply repetition of taking faceoffs in practice?
4) do you have any ticket promotions up your sleeve for next year to continue to Pack the Mac?
Probably too late to be included, sorry. Now that the Mac’s seen it’s 50th season (has it really been that long?), has anyone ever given any thought to Tech playing a “heritage weekend” series at Dee Stadium? I mean, if they can play a nationally-televised NHL game in Calumet, why not? Current season ticket holders would be given the choice of attending either the Friday or Saturday games – but not both, just like back then. Thoughts?
