In my last recruiting article, I mentioned that Tech Hockey Guide was able to report that goaltender Max Beckford had decommitted from the program. According to Chris Heisenberg’s master recruiting list, centerman Charles-Edward Tardif has joined Beckford in decommitting from Michigan Tech and will instead be plying his trade at Sacred Heart in the fall. Incidentally, Beckford also made a decision on his future this past week, with line charts from the NAHL’s Wisconsin Windigo indicating that he has committed to Bentley. Both players were expected to join the Huskies in the Fall of 2024.
By my best estimation, these two de-commitments leave the Huskies short two forwards and one goaltender for next season. Given how late it is in the recruiting process for the Fall of 2024, I would expect these holes to be filled via the Transfer Portal rather than by incoming freshmen. However, there still remains the possibility that Michigan Tech will find new freshmen to join the program. As we saw last spring with Isaac Gordon’s commitment to Tech, things can change very quickly in the college hockey landscape. Additionally, the Huskies are very heavy on defenseman for next year’s roster. I’d expect to see one or two defensemen from this year’s roster end up in the portal. Another possibility would be the Michigan Tech staff electing to delay the arrivals of Tyler Miller and/or Maks Percic, both of whom are currently expected to head to Houghton this fall.
