Season 6 Episode 7 of the Chasing MacNaughton Podcast from Tech Hockey Guide; Gloves Will Be Dropped. This week Rob Gilreath and Matt Cavender were joined by the Chasing The Bag hosts Nathan Cima, Bryce Baar, Kellan Meloche and Dylan Diaz.
Shooting the breeze
The guys started the show by discussing how Chasing the Bag transformed from an idea into reality. They also talked about one day becoming the “old guys” like Rob and Tim. Matt asked what their favorite Chasing The Bag moment was and the group ganged up on Nathan supposedly not being able to cook dinner.
The guys talked about their favorite guest on the show and Owen Baker was the near unanimous answer due to his humor and rolling with the laid back nature of the show. Kellan talked about what he’s looking forward to this upcoming season including the incoming transfers, a competitive conference and a trip to Palm Springs. Kellan also talked about his and Diaz’s goal of going to every Michigan Tech game, both home and away. Officially, he said the Misfits will be making trips to Ferris State University in the fall and Augustana after the new year.
There was a conversation about a Little Tykes basketball hoop and Diaz barking in the THG Discord server (please don’t ask me if this is a euphemism or if he is literally barking. I have no idea and I’m just as confused as you, reader).
Rob ask the Chasing The Bag guys which opponent of Michigan Tech they were most excited to see come into the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. Kellan thought that Minnesota State would be a good team to watch, Bryce picked St. Thomas, Diaz picked Bemidji State. Rob followed up asking the Chasing The Bag guys which player on the roster they were most excited to watch. Diaz was most excited for transfer Stiven Sardarian, Nathan and Bryce both picked Henry Bartle and hoped he took a step forward in his play.
The guys talked about the needs of the Misfits and Kellan mentioned that he’d put some items in the Misfits Amazon Wishlist. Matt asked Kellan how early he shows up for games. Kellan said it depends on the game and can range anywhere from 2pm to one hour before the doors open.
There was a lot of food talk at the end of the show. The guys covered their favorite pasties in the area which lead to some disagreement about the importance of the crust of a pasty. The guys also talked about their favorite beers, which included sours in the summer and Guinness in the winters for Rob. Matt talked about not enjoying beers once it’s above 80 degrees outside and likes dark beers in the winter. Diaz said he likes a good shandy and Kellan said his preference was Miller Lite.
Cut for time
This week’s cut time for Patrons is approximately 4 minutes long. The guys discussed perfect athlete names, the Minnesota Twins fumbling away the end of their season, Diaz going to the club in Houghton for the first time and Matt’s favorite bar.
