Season 6 Episode 12 of the Chasing MacNaughton Podcast from Tech Hockey Guide; Ant Man. In this episode Tim Braun, Rob Gilreath and Matt Cavender were once again joined by the Chasing the Bag crew: Nathan Cima, Dylan Diaz and Kellan Meloche. In this episode they discussed Mitches Misfits 21st anniversary celebration, Michigan Tech’s series against Alaska Fairbanks, CCHA social media and the CCHA’s record in non-conference games.

Mitch’s Misfits 21st anniversary celebration

Matt started off the show by plugging the upcoming celebration for Mitch’s Misfits 21st anniversary celebration. He ran through some of the plans for the weekend including attending games against Clarkson and playing a hockey game pitting the Misfits alumni against current Misfits. Tim talked about enjoying all the pictures of the Misfits that folks have been sharing. Kellan and Matt talked about their upcoming fight in the alumni versus students game.

Alaska series review

The conversation about Michigan Tech’s series against Alaska Fairbanks started with Matt recapping one of Nathan’s thoughts from discussion on our discord server. Matt talked about Michigan Tech only playing one and a half good periods on the weekend, yet still coming away with the series sweep. He also talked about Michigan Tech’s offense looking good and was excited to see that there are several guys who may be able to produce goals. Nathan went on a rant about how Henry Bartle should be getting more play time in the future.

The Chasing the Bag guys gave their impression of the series having seen it in person. Nathan thought there was no flow the games and that both teams lacked energy. Kellan called out the fans for being too quiet as well as being three pump chumps. Dylan thought that Michigan Tech should have lost Saturday’s game. The guys talked about Michigan Tech’s lack of depth at the defensive position due to injuries. Nathan didn’t like how much Chase Pietila was played during the series and hoped that his playing time would be reduced during the season. Tim thought that Joe would balance the play time more as Rylan Brown got more games under his belt.

The guys rag on Minnesota State fans

The guys talked about a review during the Minnesota State versus North Dakota game which took a goal off the board for Minnesota State. They talked about Minnesota State fans always complaining that the referees are biased against them. This lead to a conversation about reviews and whether they serve the correct function. The guys also discussed how Minnesota State fans seem to think the CCHA hates them.

CCHA wins some games!

The last topic of the episode saw the guys discussing the CCHA’s non-conference record at this point in the season. All of the guys were happy with the current results and the conference being almost having a .500 record. Kellan did talk about some of the bad losses the conference had and pointed out that no team can afford to lose to Lake Superior State this season. Tim was hopeful that the conference could continue to win non-conference games as the season moves on.

Cut for time

This episode’s cut time for Patrons is approximately 13 minutes long. The guys talked about Diaz not learning to skate quick enough. There was a conversation on the Mitch’s Misfits official font choice. Matt talked about the difficulty in driving a Zamboni. Matt talked about how his calendar works. There was extended conversation on offsides reviews. The guys talked about Michigan Tech’s new jersey manufacturer.
