An Old Dog in Texas: The First Annual Old Dog Awards

While there have been highs and lows this year, it’s time to recognize the positive contributions made by several members of Team 95 in Husky History. So, by the power vested in me (by me) as the co-winner of the #1 MTU Fan In Texas for 2017-2018 season (I’m tied with Mrs. Dog), here are my selections for the best of Them Dogs for the past campaign—the First Annual Old Dog Awards.

Tech Loses in the Finals, Again – ASU 3, MTU 2

Buoyed by their blowout victory over Northern Michigan on Friday night, Arizona State came out firing on all cylinders and, just like Friday, shot out to a 3-0 lead against Michigan Tech and hung on for a 3-2 win and the championship in the inaugural Ice Vegas Invitational Tournament.

Huskies Top Boston College to Advance in the Ice Vegas Invitational

Michigan Tech opened up with a first period blitzkrieg and hung on to beat Boston College 4-3 to advance to the finals of the inaugural Ice Vegas college hockey tournament. The Huskies tallied three goals in the first period to take a 3-0 edge and never gave up the lead.

Icebreaker Recap: Huskies Win Championship

Joe Shawhan and the Michigan Tech Huskies may not have gotten off to the best start last weekend in the Hall of Fame game, but they sure did show up this weekend in Duluth at the Icebreaker Tournament. The win on Friday, which we already covered, had some spectacular moments and the Huskies held a comfortable lead through most of the game. On Saturday, tournament hosts Minnesota-Duluth came out firing on all cylinders scoring on the first shift of the game. Tech pulled into the lead just after the halfway point, and fought to hold it for the remaining 29 minutes, taking home the win and the tournament trophy.

Michigan Tech came out strong in the first period, flying around the ice and putting pressure on the Dutchmen right from the opening faceoff. Michigan Tech Tabbed to Finish Third

Today the WCHA released the Coaches and Media poll. Both had the Huskies picked to finish third behind the two Minnesota schools. Our very own Tim Braun was a voter in this year's poll Media Poll organized by UAHHockey.com.

Weekend Wrap Up: NCAA Midwest Regional

The Huskies met the end of their season Saturday against the #1 overall seed Denver Pioneers. The Pioneers scored four unanswered first period goals leaving the Huskies with an unenviable challenge. The Pioneers added another goal early in the second to seemingly seal Tech's fate. Whether the Huskies had nerves coming into the NCAA tourney, or were simply outplayed by the top seed of the tourney, MTU felt the pressure of the NCAA tourney right from the start of the game.

Weekend Wrap Up: WCHA Playoff Semifinals

Tech powered past Minnesota State in a three-game semifinal series at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena this weekend. Gavin Gould (Fr., F) had four goals on the weekend, including a hat trick in Saturday's 4-1 win, to send the Huskies to the WCHA Championship game. On the other side of the ice, Angus Redmond (Fr., G), did his job and only allowed three goals in three games.
