The Old Dog had an interesting time following the Huskies this past weekend. On Friday night, he was “An Old Dog in Mexico” as he was finishing up a trip for work with an overnight stay at the airport in Monterrey. Watching the game alone in a hotel room could be less than thrilling, but THG’s Discord site always provides a great way to enjoy the game with Husky partisans.
Joe Shawhan and the Michigan Tech Huskies may not have gotten off to the best start last weekend in the Hall of Fame game, but they sure did show up this weekend in Duluth at the Icebreaker Tournament. The win on Friday, which we already covered, had some spectacular moments and the Huskies held a comfortable lead through most of the game. On Saturday, tournament hosts Minnesota-Duluth came out firing on all cylinders scoring on the first shift of the game. Tech pulled into the lead just after the halfway point, and fought to hold it for the remaining 29 minutes, taking home the win and the tournament trophy.
Michigan Tech came out strong in the first period, flying around the ice and putting pressure on the Dutchmen right from the opening faceoff. It took under four minutes for the Huskies to get on the board as Mitch Meek scored his first collegiate goal by skating up the boards and putting a shot on...
Today the WCHA released the Coaches and Media poll. Both had the Huskies picked to finish third behind the two Minnesota schools. Our very own Tim Braun was a voter in this year's poll Media Poll organized by UAHHockey.com.
The Huskies met the end of their season Saturday against the #1 overall seed Denver Pioneers. The Pioneers scored four unanswered first period goals leaving the Huskies with an unenviable challenge. The Pioneers added another goal early in the second to seemingly seal Tech's fate. Whether the Huskies had nerves coming into the NCAA tourney, or were simply outplayed by the top seed of the tourney, MTU felt the pressure of the NCAA tourney right from the start of the game.
It took nearly two extra periods for the Michigan Tech Huskies to battle through the BGSU Falcons Saturday night at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena, but a long breakout pass by Matt Roy (Jr., D) to his defensive partner Shane Hanna (Sr., D) ended in a 3-2 victory for the Huskies.
The first round of the WCHA Playoffs was definitely a statement for the Michigan Tech Huskies. In the first play-or-go-home weekend of the season, the Huskies announced to the rest of the league that they aren't going anywhere with 6-4 and 8-0 victories over UP neighbors Lake Superior State.
Linkorama is back for the season. Hopefully there will be weekly updates by the THG staff keeping you informed of the long list of recruits playing throughout North America. Michigan Tech currently has eight committed recruits playing in the USHL, seven future Huskies in the BCHL, one in the OJHL (Ontario) and three players in...
